5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome grill, but is it worth the extra cash?, March 28, 2011
By
Steven (Colorado, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Weber 1421001 Performer Charcoal Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
NOTE: This review was updated on 08/10/2011. The update will follow my original review.

First I'm going to compare/contrast the various Weber grills, then for the new Weber user I'll explain why the Weber Kettle grill is such a fantastic choice. I have used and abused my Weber One-Touch Silver for over six years now, and though the Performer has quite a few advantages over the other models, is it really worth the extra cash? I say yes, and here's why -

I've used just about every variation of the Weber kettle grills over the years, and I currently own a One-Touch Silver. The following features are the advantages over the Silver.

- Hinged Cooking Grate
One of the first upgrades I bought for my Silver was a hinged grate, it's nice that this one (as well as the Gold) comes with it; I have found this instrumental for indirect cooking.

- Ash Pan
Also like the Gold, the Performer comes with a much higher quality ash pan. The Silvers ash... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars The perfect charcoal grill... almost., April 9, 2010

This review is from: Weber 1421001 Performer Charcoal Grill, Black (Lawn & Patio)
While I love my Genesis S-320, I decided I wanted to get in to charcoal grilling when time allows. Without question, I was going to buy a Weber, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to go with the One-Touch Gold, One-Touch Platinum (knowing I'd still buy accessories for both) or the Performer.

What really sold me was the propane ignition and the cart. Having this much workspace outside is invaluable, and I just don't trust larger items like turkey to the tables on the One-Touch Platinum or the... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of both worlds, May 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I've had a variety of grilling / bbq products. Primarily Weber, given their history of solid products and great customer service.

I've always been a charcoal purist. Apartment living, however, has made me consider propane as a primary heat source for grilling. I recently bought the Weber Q220. It's a nice product, but it just doesn't get as hot as I need it to. So I sold my Q220 and decided to go with what I really wanted, which was this Weber Performer.

It's not petite - it takes up a good 3-4 feet width-wise and it's about 3 feet high.

Charcoal had always previously required me to get a chimney starter, as I'm not into soaking my briquets with lighter fluid. That meant a lot of smoke and wait time as I waited for the coals to get hot.

The Weber performer, however, uses the little, easy to find propane tanks (hardware stores, your local drugstore's seasonal merch section) to blast the coals with propane-powered fire in 10 mins. The coals... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not last., September 3, 2010
This review is from: Char-Griller 8080 Grill Cover, fits Duo Gas-and-Charcoal Grill (Lawn & Patio)
Loved the way that this cover fit with smoker box. Black color faded quickly which doesn't bother me but today (less than two months after purchase) I was pulling the cover off and it started ripping in a spot that was thin from sun wear. Didn't even last two months. I can't find any universal covers big enough for this grill, I guess I'll have to make something.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice for a week, September 4, 2010
This review is from: Char-Griller 8080 Grill Cover, fits Duo Gas-and-Charcoal Grill (Lawn & Patio)
Nice fit but it faded to almost white by the end of one grilling season(a few months). Then we noticed a tear on top, like it just split or something. It wasn't near a seem or anything and didn't occur while removing or putting the cover on the grill.

DO NOT BUY IF YOU LIVE IN TEXAS.
Bought this item back in December '10 and not even 4 months later and starts ripping anytime I take it off. Cover is completely dried out. Paid about $36 for it. Since it was Original brand name I thought it would outlast all those aftermarket brands. But I've heard offset brands are actually outlasting more expensive brands. About $10/month.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rubbermaid a nice little grill brush!, May 20, 2011

This review is from: RubberMaid #G100-12 BBQ Grill Brush
This is a good barbeque grill brush. It is inexpensive, has brass bristles, and a metal scraping blade at the top. The black handle is plastic. The face of the brush is decent size, about 3" x 3".

At a little over 10" in length it is shorter than many grill brushes. But at this price, and for the performance of brass bristles, I find that to be a good trade-off. Most manufacturers have switched from brass to stainless steel bristles. The steel bristles will be as durable, and will clean just as well, however they will be more harsh than brass on your grill surface and will scratch some grills.

The length of this brush is not important to me since I scrape the grill just after cooking, but more often the next time I get ready to grill, so the surface is not overly hot when I attack it. If you tend to clean the grill while it is still very hot, the shorter handle may bother you. While cleaning toward the back of the grill, your hand will be closer to the hot... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little brush!, May 25, 2010
This review is from: RubberMaid #G100-12 BBQ Grill Brush
I was able to find this brush locally at Ace Hardware. A steal compared to comparable brushes. I do wish it were longer, but for the price, I'll deal with that. I also like that it's BRASS bristles for my Weber SS grates...so many brushes (even Weber's) use SS now which are harsher than the brass.
