    Looftlighter 70018 Fire Lighting Tool

    Product Description

Developed by Swedish inventor, Richard Looft, the Looftlighter ignites wood or charcoal in less than 60 seconds with its patented hot airstream process. It makes charcoal barbecue preparation quick, clean, safe and easy, without the need for lighter fluids. Igniting fires and BBQs now takes just a few seconds. You can use the Looftlighter to speed up the heating process of your coals so that your BBQ is ready for cooking in just a few minutes. The patented hot airstream process eliminates the chemical taste that sometimes is infused in food when using lighter fluid and gas grills. BBQ chefs are now achieving the clean taste of their grilling and smoking recipes. The Looftlighter does not throw flames, but instead blows a hot airstream at 1,256 degrees Fahrenheit. It will switch off immediately the user releases the On button, and is equipped with a safety casing that cools to the touch within a few seconds after use. Simply plug the Looftlighter into a wall socket, and touch the nose of the lighter to your wood or coals. In about 15 seconds sparks will appear.

3.0 out of 5 stars Important Negative, May 28, 2011

The Looftlighter works very well to start charcoal fires quickly. The powerful blower penetrates heat deep into a pile of charcoal and gets a fire going in a few minutes.

There is one significant negative potential buyers should be aware of regarding this product. The device produces a lot of sparks and the blower sends them all over. I would recommend against using this device in any fire hazardous environment or anywhere flying sparks might be a problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Charcoal or Wood Fireplaces, October 13, 2010

The Looftlighter is an electric fire starter that is more like a blow dryer on steroids. It contains an electric coil and blows air through the cylinder at a very high rate. Charcoal can be lit is as little as 60 seconds by simply touching the end to the charcoal for 20-30 seconds and backing it away slightly as sparks appear. It can also be used to start wood fireplaces by using the same method on kindling or newspaper.

I found it to be excellent for starting one area in 60 seconds and placing it in one or two other areas of the charcoal pile took about half the time before the charcoal started sparking. It also comes with an attached steel stand (not seen in photo) that also serves as a bottle opener.

    Pros
    - Starts charcoal faster than wax fire starters or lighter fluid.
    - Environmentally responsible because it eliminates petroleum based starters.
    - Eliminates the chemical taste that lighter fluid infuses in food.
    - Sleek design and easy to... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Must tool for Barbeque Aficionados!, May 1, 2010
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
Makes firing up wood chips and coals quick and easy without using starters. Two negatives are that it uses a great deal of energy and would cause my house lights to flicker (strain on the electrical system) and the first one I bought died on me after only 12 months of usage. Still, worth the money.

I have used these before and when I went to the hardware store here in CA to get more they were out. It seems that they only carry them in the Winter time. So I got frantic because these things work great. I found them on Amazon and ordered 3 boxes! One square lights a fire almost everytime in my Lopi wood stove. I have used them to light fires in my fireplace too. They light very quickly and burn long enough to get dry wood blazing. I highly recommend these to anyone who has a wood stove or fireplace and hates getting a stubborn fire started. This product is guaranteed to give you a 99% shot as success in starting your fire the first time everytime.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only starters that work..., November 6, 2008

This review is from: Rutland Prod. 50B Firestarter (Kitchen)
...for my corn stove. Sometimes they are hard to find, so I buy 5 or 6 boxes to get through the winter! Other products I have tried (such as gel) don't get hot enough to trigger the feed mechanism; or they leave too much residue and clog the air holes in the burn box; or they are too big & chunky, and end up blocking the feed chute and the fire gets smothered; or they are crumbly and messy (cedar starters and coffee logs). Fatwood is too long for the burn box, expensive, and doesn't stay lit when I turn on the stove fan. I haven't used the Rutland starters much for camping and I don't have a wood stove, but I kept a box in my car last year and several times I was able to give a dozen or so to friends--they loved them too! I usually need 5 squares to start my stove, but (without shipping) it's still the most economical option I've found, and you probably only need one or two for a wood fire. A friend of mine splits his squares with a knife, so they're even more economical, and he... Read more

The title says it all. I prefer "fatwood" because it works really well and is only wood.

This review is from: aFire 0075U Flat Chimney Starter (Lawn & Patio)
I recieved this thing and it's much bigger than it looks. I really don't ever use this much charcoal. The thing also folds but the handle doesn't so it doesn't exactly fold flat - it's still big when folded. I could imagine it would also be very dirty to take apart i would think. I'm going to return it...
